Alaska Caribou Make Dramatic Population Rebound After Being on the Decline for Over a Decade The Western Arctic caribou herd in Alaska is seeing a population increase after being on the decline for more than a decade. Conservationists estimate there are currently 259,000 of the animals. There's still concern that climate change and oil and gas development could be harmful to the mammals.
